Background
Aaron Burr was born on February 6, 1756, in New Jersey to a long line of England's most elite in class, and became the son of the President of Princeton. After the loss of his parents, Burr and his sister went to live with his rich, fatherly uncle. Burr went to the College of New Jersey when he was thirteen years old, and graduated in only three years. Burr then attended Litchfield Law School in Connecticut, but his studies were interupted by the Revolutionary War. Burr joined the military, going to Quebec on an expedition under Benedict Arnold. He soon was appointed to serve under George Washington, but soon transferred to assist General Israel Putnam- until retiring in 1779. He went back to study law, and later became a successful lawyer in New York. In 1789, Burr became the general of New York. He beat Alexandar Hamilton's father-in-law for a spot in the Senate. Burr lost the re-election, and blamed it on Hamilton; complaining about how Hamilton turned voters against him. Burr ran against Thomas Jefferson for the presidency in 1800, but lost almost absolutely because of Hamilton's protests. Burr was furious (though he became vice-president), so he challenged his long-time rival to a duel; ending in the death of Hamilton. The public turned on Burr, and though Burr wasn't charged for murder- the famous duel of 1804 ended his political career. Admitting defeat, Burr returned to New York to finish his life as a lawyer- though utterly failed. He became dependent on his friends' financial help, and married a widow. They divorced, though, not long after, and Burr had a few strokes before his death in 1836.
